To be competitive today, attracting and supporting developers is essential. eBay – June 20, 2017 – eBay Announces New and Updated Sell and Buy APIs to Help Companies Grow Their Businesses – “Today, we are announcing new Commerce APIs, which is useful for buying and selling on eBay. The first capability in the Commerce APIs is the Taxonomy API. With this API, sellers get the category taxonomy for the eBay marketplace, and suggested categories. Sellers can also use this to organize their inventory. Buyers use the API to easily browse and discover what they are looking for. We are also introducing a new Buy API, Buy Marketing API, which gives developers the best-selling products in a category, ranked by product demand metrics.”
Google – June 15, 2017 – Supercharge your Computer Vision models with the TensorFlow Object Detection API – “Today we are happy to make this system available to the broader research community via the TensorFlow Object Detection API. This codebase is an open-source framework built on top of TensorFlow that makes it easy to construct, train and deploy object detection models. Our goals in designing this system was to support state-of-the-art models while allowing for rapid exploration and research.”
IBM, BMW – June 14, 2017 – IBM Integrates with BMW CarData to Enable New and Innovative Services for Drivers – “As a pilot partner, IBM has integrated Bluemix with the BMW CarData platform. Vehicle data will be enhanced by IBM Watson IoT, using cognitive and data analytics services to enable third parties, such as automotive repair shops or insurance companies, to develop entirely new customer experiences.”
Google – June 13, 2017 – Recognizing Android Excellence on Google Play – “As part of our efforts to recognize this content on the Play Store, today we’re launching Android Excellence. The new collections will showcase apps and games that deliver incredible user experiences on Android, use many of our best practices, and have great design, technical performance, localization, and device optimization.”
Google – June 8, 2017 – Android O APIs are final, get your apps ready! – “Today we’re rolling out Developer Preview 3 with the final Android O APIs, the latest system images, and an update to Android Studio to help you get ready for the consumer release later in the summer. Watch for one more preview update coming in July that will bring you the near-final system images.”
Cisco – June 8, 2017 – Cisco Visual Networking Index Predicts Global Annual IP Traffic to Exceed Three Zettabytes by 2021 – “Over the next five years (2016 – 2021), global digital transformation will continue to have a significant impact on the demands and requirements of IP networks according to today’s release of the Cisco Visual Networking Index™ (VNI) Complete Forecast. Top-level indicators include the projected increase in Internet users—from 3.3 to 4.6 billion or 58 percent of the global population[1], greater adoption of personal devices and machine-to-machine (M2M) connections—from 17.1 billion to 27.1 billion from 2016- 2021, average broadband speed advances—from 27.5 Mbps to 53.0 Mbps, and more video viewing—from 73 percent to 82 percent of total IP traffic. Over the forecast period, global IP traffic is expected to increase three-fold reaching an annual run rate of 3.3 zettabytes by 2021, up from an annual run rate of 1.2 zettabytes in 2016.”

PTC/ThingWorx – June 6, 2017 – PTC Expands Its Industrial IoT Technology Offering with the Launch of ThingWorx 8 – “With this ThingWorx 8 update, ThingWorx evolves into a more robust, comprehensive Industrial IoT technology offering for businesses looking to accelerate Industrial IoT value. ThingWorx 8 features enhanced platform capabilities, role-specific applications for engineering and manufacturing, a substantial ecosystem of partners and customers, more expansive educational programs, and a new collection of service offerings designed for Industrial IoT customers and partners.”
Suunto – June 6, 2017 – Movesense Publicly Launches Software Developer Kit to Accelerate Motion-Sensing Technology – “Suunto is making it easier to rapidly develop and bring to market new, more accurate motion-sensing solutions with Movesense, a sophisticated sensor and software developer kit (SDK) that’s now publicly available. In industries as diverse as sports, agriculture, manufacturing, and health care, Movesense can cut motion-sensing product development from years to hours.”
Google – June 6, 2017 – Spinnaker 1.0: a continuous delivery platform for cloud – “Today we’re happy to announce the release of Spinnaker 1.0, an open-source multi-cloud continuous delivery platform used in production at companies like Netflix, Waze, Target, and Cloudera, plus a new open-source command line interface (CLI) tool called halyard that makes it easy to deploy Spinnaker itself.”
Facebook – June 1, 2017 – Facebook Introduces Developer Circles – “The developer community has played a large role in Facebook’s success to-date, and we continue to focus on giving back to startups, entrepreneurs, and developers to help them succeed. Today, at F8 we announced Developer Circles from Facebook, a new program for developers all over the world to connect, learn, and collaborate with other local developers.”
